Linux Administrator

Alliances-IT is a privately held company based in Lahore, Pakistan with offices in Switzerland. Currently, the company focuses on the fields of academic publishing, information processing, and social networking. We are leveraging our founders experience with academia and links in the engineering talent pool in emerging economies to rapidly build cost effective productive teams to translate the vision of the university spin-off to marketable products. We are currently looking for Linux administrator.

The incumbent will help build, configure and administer high-performance, highly scalable enterprise level servers that will be hosting complex information processing services that will revolutionize the way academic research is conducted, evaluated and published. This position also provides guidance and assistance in configuring, supporting, monitoring, design and planning of the IT infrastructure such that the infrastructure meet our expectations for availability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in the installation, maintenance and technical support of the client/server hardware and software
  • Provide technical systems management, server administration and operational support
  • Monitor performance and maintain operational integrity of systems
  • Liaison with various technical support personnel, vendors, and service providers as required
  • Research and evaluate current and future hardware and software technologies specific to client needs and services
  • Participates in developing and implementing solutions to problems
  • Perform server maintenance and upgrades
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of network services, technical problems, and questions
  • Ensure that appropriate and consistent solutions are provided

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline with 5+ years related post-secondary experience, or
  • A Technology Diploma with 7+ years related post-secondary experience
  • Extensive experience with RH, FC, Ubuntu and Debian on Intel and Sun hardware
  • Experience with NIS, LDAP and NFS
  • Extensive experience with Perl and other shell scripting languages
  • Strong organization and time management skills, effective written and oral communication skills and Service and deadline oriented person
  • Leadership qualities, promotes quality, integrity, reliability and teamwork
  • Ability to configure remote machines on command line.
